Frankland River Shiraz
Shiraz from Frankland River is arguably our strongest variety from this isolated, but super reliable sub-region of the fabulous Great Southern. All from our Russell Road vineyard, it was harvested in March from our best two blocks; Block 3 has alluvial red soils, is low yielding, ripens earlier and produces smaller berried fruit that is blacker with more tannin. Block 27 has deeper gravelly soils; ripens later and produces the deep red fruit that provides the luscious fruit characters; together they make for a more complex wine with great fruit flavour and structure. Traditional winemaking and maturation in French oak with minimal fining before bottling all contribute to producing this rich and well flavoured wine.
COLOUR
A deep, dark and vibrant crimsony red.
AROMA
Beautifully aromatic and fragrant with lifted spicy fruit characters, dark ripe plum and an attractive hint of liquorice and star anise adding complexity.
PALATE
Well flavoured with loads of vibrant fruit characters, this wine is very approachable now while also having the structure to reward cellaring. The delicious, spicy dark plum fruit flavours are well integrated after its careful oak handling, all adding to its complexity and depth. Well balanced, the touch of astringency and lightly drying tannins add length to the palate and provides its good finish; enjoy now with many foods or after a few years bottle age.
